In this paper, a simplified model of a pushbroom sensor (the linear pushbroom model) is introduced. It has the advantage of computational simplicity while at the same time giving very accurate results compared with the full orbiting pushbroom model. Besides remote sensing, the linear pushbroom model is also useful in many other imaging applications.

A Framework for 3D Pushbroom Imaging

Pushbroom cameras produce one-dimensional images of a scene with high resolution at a high frame-rate. As a result, they provide superior data compared to conventional twodimensional cameras in cases where the scene of interest can be temporally scanned. In this paper, we consider the problem of recovering the structure of a scene using a set of pushbroom cameras. Although pushbroom cameras hav...

A Fast Object-to-image Best Scanline Search Algorithm for Airborne Linear Pushbroom Image Processing

Airborne linear pushbroom cameras have become one of the most important imaging sensors in today’s photogrammetry and remote sensing practices to collect high-resolution multi-channel seamless image strips. The object-to-image coordinate computation is a core step for the process of photogrammetric images. However, for linear pushbroom sensors, each scanline captured by linear sensor owns six e...

Extraction of digital elevation models from satellite stereo images through stereo matching based on epipolarity and scene geometry

This paper addresses the problem of generating digital elevation models from satellite images taken by linear pushbroom cameras. Since there exist unique geometric properties for linear pushbroom images, we argue that the conventional DEM generation schemes developed for perspective images are not suitable for satellite images. Using the geometric properties of linear pushbroom images, we desig...

Camera Estimation for Orbiting Pushbroom Imaging Systems

Several space-borne cameras use pushbroom scanning to acquire imagery. Traditionally, modeling and analyzing pushbroom sensors has been computationally intensive due to the motion of the orbiting satellite with respect to the rotating earth, and the nonlinearity of the mathematical model involving orbital dynamics. The most time-consuming part of the computation involves mapping a 3-D point to ...
